Are you a victim of poor SMP?
You chose the wrong artist?
So you decided to have your SMP done by someone who proclaimed to be ‘the best,’ you paid them in full, they ruined your scalp or did a poor job & now they have blocked your number or disappeared off the face of the earth? Or even better, they are arguing with you that there is nothing wrong with your result?
Maybe you went with them because their quote was a third of what others were quoting?
Maybe you went with them because they said they could do it in one session, when everyone else said you would need 3 sessions?
Maybe they took you on as a density client, when there was simply not enough hair for the density effect to work well enough, and shaven look should have been the only option?
We have heard this all before & it’s not your fault.
We are seeing an unprecedented amount of poor SMP jobs (completed elsewhere) & very upset clients come to us for help.
This is due to many different reasons, the main one is the poor training that the artist has received to begin with & the fact that they are still learning their craft when they worked on your scalp. Don’t get us wrong, there are some trainers who do a better job than others, but some people are trying to do the bare minimum when it comes to entering this industry.
Many do not realise that The Scalp Micro Pigmentation industry in Australia is unregulated. This means that anyone with a tattoo machine, needles & pigment can do a cheap online course and start tattooing from their home, esentially practicing on real people, with no supervision. To make matters worse, there is no accountability when things go wrong. No Government or Industry body can help make things right for you. Some people do not even have indemnity insurance.
This is why we are seeing so many people come to us for help, that have received blow outs, mega dots, unrealistic hair lines and blue or even green looking results.
Most people seek to have SMP completed due to many factors, the biggest is to improve their self confidence. You can imagine how much a person’s self confidence is shattered when they go down the SMP path, only to receive a poor result that will take months of laser removal, extra cost & pain to fix.
Please make sure that you do your due dilligence when selecting an artist. Don’t just chose the cheapest or nearest artist to you. Many artists will edit or even steal before and after photos from reputable companies and try to pass this off as their own work.
Also be wary of their infection control standards. Do they pick up their phone to take photos while wearing gloves? Do they wear gloves at all? Do they correctly wrap their entire machine? Do they have a sealed floor that can be disinfected or do they use carpet?
What are my options to repair my SMP?
Depending on how bad the result is, often bad SMP can be reversed or corrected. If it is simply bad design and needs more work to improve it, we may be able to blend out some of the bad areas and correct poor hairlines. Often we can repair a bad result.
Laser removal
If the work has blow outs and mega dots, or the hair line has been brought forward too much to look unnatural, the SMP will need to be removed by a laser tattoo removal technician.
The process can be painful, but in time the result will be removed. The amount of sessions and cost will depend on just how deep the poor work is.
We will be more than happy to discuss your options with you. We can refer you to a suitable laser removal technician in all states.
Chose your SMP artist wisely
In short, if you are at the research stage of looking into SMP, please remember that this is a tattoo that is going on your head. It takes experience to perfect this technique, we don’t all work to the same standard. Quite often cheap SMP ends up costing more, when you factor in removal and then the costs to have it properly done. Speak to a number of different artists & don’t base your decision purely on price alone.
